Summary: SERVER_NAME behavior changed since apache 1.3
Product: Apache httpd-2
Version: 2.2.4
Platform: Other
OS/Version: other
Status: NEW
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: All
AssignedTo: bugs@httpd.apache.org
ReportedBy: bate@php.net
I have a VHOST Configuration like:
<VirtualHost ...>
ServerName MyServer.com
ServerAlias test.MyServer.com debug.MyServer.com
</VirtualHost>
Under Apache 1.3 i get in the env. the host information and SERVER_NAME
and its in every case the ServerName value (MyServer.com)
This is also the ServerName where one of the ServerAlias matches
(debug.MyServer.com)
URI: http://www.MyServer.com
SERVER_NAME = MyServer.com
URI: http://debug.MyServer.com
SERVER_NAME = MyServer.com
URI: http://test.MyServer.com
SERVER_NAME = MyServer.com
Under Apache 2.2.x its complete different.
URI: http://www.MyServer.com
SERVER_NAME = www.MyServer.com
URI: http://debug.MyServer.com
SERVER_NAME = debug.MyServer.com
URI: http://test.MyServer.com
SERVER_NAME = test.MyServer.com
This breaks most SERVER_NAME based configurations. My Question is (if this isnt
a bug) how can i resolve the real ServerName for the VHOST.

This is not a bug, and Bugzilla is not a support forum. Eric already pointed out the relevant bit in the
documentation, and indeed the default value of UseCanonicalName has changed since 1.3. If you have
any more questions, refer to users@httpd.apache.org. Thanks!
