mqtt library on NuttX?

Hi,
I was wondering if anyone is already using some MQTT library on NuttX. I see many options some of which look like potential candidates for easy porting, but if anyone already went through this process I would appreciate some feedback.

Thanks,
Matias

Nice to know you are fine.

Are you playing with STM32L5? It should be nice to have mbedtls and
trustzone integrated, but mbedtls alone will benefit all other MCUs
too.

Do you need some help testing mbedtls?

Alan

I am back, but I needed to take a break and work on some other things
I was behind on for a few weeks. I had kind of let that PR stall
because I have been doing some experimenting with using trustzone to
optionally back it. I should just do that work as a different PR and
just push this one across the line. It might impact some of the
integration work but it wont change how applications work with it
since they just using the normal mbedtls API.

Hello,

I did a simple sample code using CMake and NuttX as external library:

https://github.com/Phi-Innovations/nuttx-apps/tree/main/example-mqtt

Hope it helps.

I used MQTT-C for it, and I added the sources into my project (not into Nuttx).

It would be nice to have the library integrated into NuttX too.

Best regards,

Flavio

Hi,

I know this is a very late reply, and sorry for that. I just want to clear something up in general a software grant is for a single bit of software, it doesn’t cover all software from that company. Was this code being talked about part of the original software grant?

Thanks,
Justin

Oh nevermind! I was so fixated on the code that I forgot the fact
that I need to reconfigure mosquitto after my recent system
reinstallation.. PR incoming..

I did prepare the PR, however testing with latest master I found out
that fcntl isn't working on socket descriptors.. I'm suspecting
https://github.com/apache/incubator-nuttx/pull/2899 & the follow up
https://github.com/apache/incubator-nuttx/pull/3045
The little debugging I did showed that fs_getfilep is returning a bad
file structure in case of a socket descriptor.

I still didn't debug it any further.

Espressif has already signed an SGA, licensing shouldn't be an issue.
That said, I can submit it later if you guys want.
One question: where do we put the library?
A new "mqtt" folder?

But you are right, maybe it is better if we submit it because there is
an Espressif copyright on it.

The copyright header is from Espressif so I guess it would be best if someone at Espressif can submit it
(not sure if it would require a SGA).

Great, thanks! I see the wrapper app is quite simple. Could we submit it
to nuttx apps repo?

Sure, if the mbedTLS PR gets finished it would be a good combination.

Best,
Matias

Someone was asking the other day on Linkedin, so I pushed this:

You can use it with no SSL support. But MQTT-C supports multiple
crypto libraries, mbedTLS being one of them, I guess it was
contributed by Yamamoto. I used mbedTLS + MQTT-C before as well.

Great, maybe some draft PR could be submitted?

Regarding SSL, is it required to build? Maybe it can be initially integrated without
SSL support?

Best,
Matias

BTW we need to have this PR integrated first:

https://github.com/apache/incubator-nuttx-apps/pull/566

Hi Matias,

Yes, some people here are using mqtt-c on NuttX and it is working fine.

It needs some clean-up to be submitted to apps/

Alan
