请问高级网络中的vlan主要起到什么作用？

是不是主要是为了用在跨多个交换机的场合？比如同一个cluster中的两台HOST主机，在不同的机距，连接不同的交换机的情况。

是不是如果我所有的机器都是接在一个三层交换机下，就没有必要设置vlan了呢？
