Your patch might certainly improve the situation but I think the real problem at hand is JCR-3444. I.e. a session leak in the test runner. 

OTOH sessions should really be cheaper and not take up that much memory when they are not "active". From that POV the patch might be the right thing to do. I'm a bit +/-0 here ;-)
