Backport 584 to 0.9.x
Cherry-picks "generalised Entities.waitFor()" into the 0.9.x branch. See #584.
You can merge this pull request into a Git repository by running:

Alternatively you can review and apply these changes as the patch at:

Note: Jenkins will fail to build this PR, due to missing published 0.9.x dependencies. Please verify by building locally.
