COM layer update

Just thought I'd let everybody know that my local copy of the COM layer
has successfully checked out the SVN repository! Hopefully sometime this
week I'll be able to finish up some testing stuff, and some code
rearranging I need to do and commit the stuff to the repository.

Yay!

Hope everybody in the US had a nice long vacation weekend,
