Maven not running testng scripts

Hi,

I have 2 testng class files. If I run mvn test, tests are compiling but not
being executed. Maven is displaying as Skipping tests.

FYR

1) There is no skip entry in pom.xml.
2) There is a dependency on testng
3) There is a surefire plugin 2.4.3
4) Testng version 5.8

Please help me in solving this issue at your earliest.
