I just wanted to add that I got the idea for this suggestion
while trying to look up a cvs error message. When I never found
a decent explanation of the error message, I thought of a faq of
error messages, and submitted this idea not to CVS, but to the
subversion project:

http://subversion.tigris.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=1278

apparently they like the idea, and would thus be greatly help in
implementing it if LOG4J were to provide a 'log message grepping
source analyzer'
