As a general principle a business should not delete operational data which
includes which features and categories that were available at a particular
time. One should always endeavour to keep an accurate record of a business
as one always needs to guard against litigation. However this does mean that
you have to maintain a huge database although size should not affect
performance much if designed well.

If you are desperate to reduce the size of the database you could transfer
all your current data, features and categories to a new version of the
database and transfer to that as your live database and save for old
database for historical records. You should remember that most countries
require that records are kept for a minimum amount of time and this includes
computer records.

I do not know how easy this is to do in OFBiz, but that would be the general
principle I would recommend.

My question would be why do you feel your database is bloated?
If you have redundant features, can you not turn them off by defining the
end-date. I remember that product pricing can be date controlled, so I
assume the same might apply to features and categories. If not then that is
perhaps a feature that should be requested.

Hope this is of some help.

Kind regards,

Andrew Ballantine.
