[jira] [Commented] (HADOOP-11257) Deprecate 'hadoop jar'

    [ https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/HADOOP-11257?page=com.atlassian.jira.plugin.system.issuetabpanels:comment-tabpanel&focusedCommentId=14194786#comment-14194786 ]

Colin Patrick McCabe commented on HADOOP-11257:
-----------------------------------------------

I find "hadoop jar" useful for running standalone tests against Hadoop classes. For example, you can run https://github.com/cmccabe/jni_based_unix_groups_mapping_test with {{hadoop jar}}.

Any time you want to run a standalone program against HDFS, you easily can do it with {{hadoop jar}}. I agree that we should not be recommending its use for MR jobs and so forth, but is there really a need to remove it?

> Given that 'hadoop jar' and 'yarn jar' work differently, we should mark 'hadoop jar' as deprecated in 2.7 and remove it in trunk.
