Installing a new block - basic question

I'm looking to install a new block (Fins) into an existing Cocoon
deployment.  I know this is a really basic questiion, but... if I
rebuild Cocoon and deploy it to the servlet container (Tomcat, as a WAR
file) - will this not overwrite all existing configuration files (main
sitemap.xmap, cocoon.xconf web.xml).   If so, how do I avoid this
happening?
