Questions about Maven 2 POM interpolation

Hi list,

Is there any documentation available explaining exactly how Maven 2
POM interpolation works?

I've been experimenting a bit with Maven 2 interpolation and it appears
that it essentially works like this:

- it adds the artifactId of the child POM to all the url and to
the scm connection entries of the parent

- if the parent POM declares the child POM as a module, the
interpolation is different, but I did not manage to find the rule
  that was used

Also, is it possible to disable this interpolation (in order to do it
"by hand", with properties)?

Finally, is it a reasonable practice to have a POM which will define
url and scm parameters ONLY for the purpose of being interpolated
and which do not match its own parameters?

For the urls, I can easily see that I will not be a problem if I do
not plan to deploy any site for this POM, but what about the SCM
connections? Is it annoying if they are wrong? Will Confluence still
be able to process such a POM?

Thanks.
