[jira] [Commented] (CASSANDRA-3526) support 'clean-on-compact' mode of operation

Jonathan Ellis commented on CASSANDRA-3526:
-------------------------------------------

What if we just made compaction always "clean"? Wouldn't have to worry about toggling between cleaning and non-cleaning modes. We could snapshot before stream to add safety.

> Instead of having 'cleanup' be a bulky long-term operation that goes through the entire data set, it would be useful if, after whatever criteria you would normally use to satisfy yourself that it's safe to run cleanup, you simply made the node enter a mode whereby all compaction operations (that happen anyway) also clean up.
> This would make the bootstrapping of new nodes less of a burden in terms of performance and operational overhead.
