[jira] [Commented] (HDFS-13536) [PROVIDED Storage] HA for InMemoryAliasMap

    [ https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/HDFS-13536?page=com.atlassian.jira.plugin.system.issuetabpanels:comment-tabpanel&focusedCommentId=16502297#comment-16502297 ]

Virajith Jalaparti commented on HDFS-13536:
-------------------------------------------

[^HDFS-13536.001.patch] enables the {{InMemoryAliasMapProtocol}} to support HA when the Namenodes are configured with HA. It defines a new failover proxy provider, {{InMemoryAliasMapFailoverProxyProvider}} to accomplish this. {{InMemoryAliasMapFailoverProxyProvider}} is implemented as a subclass of {{ConfiguredFailoverProxyProvider}} -- it has the exact functionality of {{ConfiguredFailoverProxyProvider}} except the address used to create the proxy ({{dfs.provided.aliasmap.inmemory.rpc.address}} used instead of {{dfs.namenode.rpc-address}}).

{{NamenodeProtocols}} is not extended to include {{InMemoryAliasMapProtocol}} to allow for the possibility to run the InMemoryAliasMap outside the Namenode. While running this in the Namenode simplifies deployment, one might prefer to not do this to reduce the burden on the Namenode (memory, RPCs etc).
