I'm guessing that is a Hudson problem which will go away on its own?

Not sure it will help, but worth a try. Don't have time now to check
what exactly is used from the test module and whether this is still a
problem on 3.1...

Yep. Got same on -Dmaven.test.skip=true.
Path to dependency:
1) org.apache.cayenne:cayenne-tools:jar:3.0-SNAPSHOT
2) org.apache.cayenne.unpublished:cayenne-jdk1.5-unpublished:test-jar:tests:3.0-SNAPSHOT
Maybe we could change scope of test-jar:tests to test (not compile) in
cayenne-tools project ?

Hmm... I've seen a similar issue when building Cayenne on Windows with
-Dmaven.test.skip=true. So maybe we need to enable the unit tests on
Hudson (haven't checked the config yet, so just guessing here).
