[jira] Created: (INFRA-1743) Unable to subscribe to dev@mina.apache.org and users@mina.apache.org

Unable to subscribe to dev@mina.apache.org and users@mina.apache.org
--------------------------------------------------------------------

                 Key: INFRA-1743
                 URL: https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/INFRA-1743
             Project: Infrastructure
          Issue Type: Bug
      Security Level: public (Regular issues)
          Components: Mailing Lists
            Reporter: Edwin Lee

i'm trying to join the dev@mina.apache.org and users@mina.apache.org mailing lists, but my necessary mails to activate the subscription have all been marked as spam.

i have tried using
1. The special reply address for the subscription confirmation email.
2. dev-request@mina.apache.org
3. sending a mail for help to dev-owner@mina.apache.org
4. sending a mail for help to infrastructure@apache.org

but they all got bounced back as spam.

Would you be able to help me activate my subscription to these two mailing lists, please?

(btw, if the same spam filter is used, i forsee i'll have the same problems sending to dev@mina.apache.org and users@mina.apache.org in future.)

Sending as plain text mail (using the same address) indeed worked. So it was the HTML mail.

My problem is solved, so i'll leave it to you guys to decide if this constraint is reasonable (i.e. HTML mails treated as spam) and close this issue. Do let me know if you want me to help test anything.

Thanks!

Edwin,

First what address are you trying to subscribe with? I can manually subscribe you, but we should get to the bottom of your issues first to make sure your future emails don't get dropped too.

Can you also post the message headers, from one of your bounced messages please? I need to see what is triggering the spam tagging.

Cheers,
Tony

Edwin,

It really does depend on the body of the message, if using HTML, and what crap folks like Yahoo insert into it. Things like the links to Yahoo mail, and messenger. Not forgetting the infamous Yahoo exclamation mark (point) all these are added up and SpamAssassin uses a points based system to decided whether the mail has exceeded a set threshold, before binning it as spam.

Thanks, i did made sure that the mails have a subject and body (in fact, my mail to dev-owner@mina.apache.org and infrastructure@apache.org were actual real emails).

But i use web mail (Yahoo), so that must be a possibility. i'll try again in plain text.

----------------------------------

Try adding a subject and a body that would be reasonable as an email. Make sure you don't use HTML email. All that is required is the email address. That way you may be able to persuade the ASF mail servers that your mail is not spam.

Regards, Upayavira
