Configuring Java for openoffice on OSX Mountain Lion
Hello folks,
I have JDK 1.6 provided by Apple installed on my Macbook pro, which is running Mountain Lion. Openoffice can't detect the JAVA installed and specifying manually via OpenOffice preferences does not work as well. Whatever folder I specify in Openoffice preferences, it says - "No valid JRE found".
I am at loss, can anyone explain what is going on?
Cheers

Hello Mike,
Thank you so much for trying to help me, but I am pretty sure I don't have corrupted Java. I am a Java/Scala programmer and I will know if my Java installation is corrupt. Other apps - Eclipse, IntelliJ Idea, occasional Applets,Tomcat, ActiveMQ and ElasticSearch work just fine.
Cheers

Just as I have reloaded Java x86 AND Java 64 bit so too can you reload 1.6
and 1.7
You likely have a corrupted Java file, so it's best to have a "clean sweep"

I am somewhat hesitant to nuke my existing JVM installations and also, I would not want to switch to JDK 1.7 system wise, because I need 1.6 for several other apps.
Is there no other real resolution to this problem?

I also had this problem in the past. I ended up having to totally remove
all traces of java from my registry (Download "Advanced Uninstaller" free)
And re-install both x86 and 64 bit versions of Javas's downloader because
I'm running Win7 64 bit.
You may have to do the same, but it's crucial you download the correct
version of Java. There are many versions.
