[Issue 124575] New: Paragraph style Text Flow - New page number set to 0: Does not continue page numbering.

https://issues.apache.org/ooo/show_bug.cgi?id=124575

          Issue ID: 124575
        Issue Type: DEFECT
Summary: Paragraph style Text Flow - New page number set to 0:
                    Does not continue page numbering.
           Product: Writer
           Version: 4.0.1
          Hardware: Mac
                OS: Mac OSX, 10.9
            Status: UNCONFIRMED
          Severity: normal
          Priority: P3
         Component: formatting
          Assignee: issues@openoffice.apache.org
          Reporter: mcelligott.paul@gmail.com

Created attachment 83054
  --> https://issues.apache.org/ooo/attachment.cgi?id=83054&action=edit
File illustrating the problem.

Paragraph style > Text Flow

Check Insert

Select Page

With Page Style (Default)

Set page number to 0.

This should continue page numbering. Instead the page number field on the new
page is blank and the next page is numbered 1.

Oddly, another paragraph style does the exact same thing correctly.

The difference is that one (Act Header Other) style (the incorrect one) is
based on another style (Act Header First) that resets the page number to 1. The
correctly behaving style (Act Header Two and Up) is based off the default para
style.

Steps to reproduce:

1. Create a paragraph style with (Tab Text Flow)
[x] Insert
Type: Page
Position: Before
[x] With Page Style <any page style>
*** Page number: NOT 0 (any other than 0)

2.a
Assign the first paragraph style to a paragraph and overwrite at the paragraph
the value (Tab Text Flow)
*** Page number: 0

2.b
Create an inherit paragraph style from the first paragraph style and overwrite
the value (Tab Text Flow)
*** Page number: 0
Assign this paragraph style to a paragraph.

In both cases (2.a and 2.b) the value 0 is not interpreted as "no change" but
as page number 0.

No. It will have the same problem with "Default" set in the para style as as
well. I must have changed that when I was trying troubleshoot the problem.

@Paul:
I am not able to reproduce the described problem.
The first step is not clear to me as I do not know which Paragraph Style has to
be changed.
You said that Paragraph Style "Act Header Other" is the one which does not
behave correct. But this Paragraph Style is not applied to any paragraph.
Could you please provide some more information on how to reproduce the problem.
Thanks in advance.

I reproduce the problem under Ubuntu already with OOo 2.4.

The reason could be that the paragraph style defines a page break with page
style "Right Page" [0] and at the paragraph itself it is overwritten with page
style "Default" [0].

I have looked into your document under Ubuntu and under MacOS.
1. I can't see any difference.
2. I can't see any problem. (numbering looks as it is defined, no blank field)

Have you checked the result after reopening the file?

Is there a special position/paragraph at that the described steps should be
done?

Thx.
I can reproduce the described defect with the new sample document.
I reproduce the defect on Windows 7 in OOo 3.0.0, OOo 3.3.0, AOO 3.4.0, AOO
4.0.0 and AOO 4.1.0 Beta

Act Header Other is based on Act Header First. Act Header First stats a new
page with style First Page and sets page number to one.

Act Header Other starts a new page with page style Default, set to page 0. The
page number for the first page shows as blank and the next page is page 1 when
it should continue from the previous page.

Act Header Two and Up has identical formating to Act Header Other, but it's
based off the Default para style. It starts a new page with style Default, page
set to 0, and the page number continues from the previous pages as expected.

I've attached a new file with the Act 2 paragraph set to Act Header Other. You
should see the problem now.
