problems with memory
Hello,
I am trying to install Ant with the Xerces XML parser. For that I downloaded
the jakarta-ant-1.5.1-src.zip.
I executed the bootstrap.sh script and the build.sh scritps and I got this:

- which version of the JDK are you using?
- which compiler?
- which OS?
- have you tried increasing the max amount of memory available to the
compiler?

This property is set somewhere in a target you made.
This target contains a task, perhaps <junit blablabalbalab />.
Or the task should look like this.
<junit printsummary="yes"
fork="yes"
haltonfailure="no"
showoutput="yes"
includeantruntime="yes">
...
</junit>
Just send us this task and the target it is used in, from your build.xml
Tell us which properties (something like ${prop} ) you set in
your build.properties file.

As you can see I am pretty lost, I am new in all this stuff.
I dont understand what you mean with the tasks that i am using. By the way
the version of the java compiler is 1.1.8, should I change something in the
build.xml?
I also have set the <property name="junit.fork" value="true"/> which was set
to false before.
I have changed the heap value to 64, 128, 256 and now to 512 and it doesnt
work.
many thanks for your patience and your help, really

Ok I have changed in my targets of build.xml in jvmarg =" -Xms=64m". I have
256 Mb of memory and 600 of swap space. Is that amount of memory enough?
By the way someone ask me which kind of compiler I use. In jvmarg I see
a "classic".
thank you very much indeed

Hi again,
so if you want to set the javac memory options, see javac -h
there will be something like -xms = enoughmemory.
If your are using your targets see, that you are able to set the
<jvmargs = -Xms= XYZm /> for the task you are using.
Otherwise it is possible to set maxmemory = XYZ in a task.

Hello again,
I have used verbose mode and if anyone wants me to send over the log file,
please ask me.
About the memory option, I cant find in neither javac or ant compiler where
the -maxmemory option is. Please give me a few more details.
Many thanks in advance

Re: problems with memory
Posted by Miguel González Castaños <mg...@tid.es>.
Sorry that I didnt give all the details:
JDK - I have downloaded jdk118_v3-glibc-2.1.3.tar from Blackdown.
OS - Linux RedHat 7.3
I do not know how to increase the amount of memory available for the compiler, I
have seen that there is the ANT_OPTS environment variable, but I havent found
any documentation about it.
Many thanks in advance
Miguel

Hi,
did you try to fork all forkable tasks
and which tasks are used in your target.
Best, show us your target.
Are your using the java VM in -classic or -hotspot mode ?
