Can skewing create a 2.5D/3D effect?
Hi all,
Is it possible to create a 2.5D/3D effect by skewing objects in an SVG file?
if no, what will be the best way to create such an effect?
regards,
pires7

This is correct. SVG is essentially incapable of true 3D (perspective)
drawing (there are a number of good reasons for this).
However SVG can do 2.5D drawing which is also known as isometric
drawing, and this does involve skew. It would probably be complex
to try and build a 2.5D drawing system in SVG.
You might also be interested in looking at samples/3D.svg in
the Batik distribution. This shows a good simulation of 3D using
SVG, but it really is just doing some very simple lighting
calculations, and point calculations. You couldn't do any
texturemaping this way for example.

Hi all,
thanks for your replies,
i have been trying skewing, but i dont think it can create a 3D effect as
SVG is not catered for 3D.

I think the answer is not. Affine transform in svg is linear transform,
and perspective transform needed for 3D effect is non linear.
Using svg transform it is possible to mimic parallel 3D projection only.
All the best,
Vladimir

Yes, it is possible to skew SVG element, please look at Transform
Attribute in SVG DOM API.
