Strange. I touched a file ._CHANGES and ._configure.ac in the thrift directory, then re-ran make dist, but it still didn't include it. I tried a clean bootstrap, touched those files and tried again, but couldn't get it in the tarball.

I can speak from experience here - it happens when I edit files in TextMate and *then* run make dist to produce tarballs. I think it'd be nice to have a patch that just made sure that anything that started with "._" was explicitly excluded.

I'm unable to reproduce this on a clean checkout of trunk on Snow Leopard, running ./bootstrap && ./configure && make dist
