Deleting cells from a document

Hello,

I an reading a line from an Excel document, but the
getPhysicalNumberOfCells() function gives me one more cell that what I can
see in my spreadsheet.
The last cell is empty.

I suppose there was anything in the cell some weeks ago, but it neow
empty, and I don't want it to be considered as a "physical" cell.
How can I delete it in Excel or OpenOffice so that it on't be counted
anymore ?
