tomcat problem, or mysql problem?

hey guys,

how is everybody?

given that:

I can go to http://place.com:8080 , and get the default tomcat page.

I can get to every directory under webapps, except my directory. When I try
to enter it, my browser just hangs, looking...

I stuck my directory under examples, just for fun, and, not suprisingly, upon
entering it I got lots of errors. (that's not suprising, right?)

the directory in question is a copy (on linux) of one in use in a windows
environment. is there any chance that tomcat hangs because the mysql
databases can't find the mysql server?

Does any glaringly simple thing glare at you about my setup?

becoming frustrated...

thanks,

-tom

I'm trying to corner my problem...

If mysql is hosed completely (worst case scenario) what ever pages under
webapps would still come up?

the last lines of catalina.out:

Connection started
com.dir.db.utils.DBUpdatePool startAConnection Cannot connect to MySQL server
on localhost:3306. Is there a MySQL server running on the machine/port you
are trying to connect to? (java.net.ConnectException)

On Linux:

package com.My.Package.myClassName

is not the same as

com/my/package/myclassname.class

Linux is case-sensitive. If your package is com.My.Package.myClassName,
your directory structure and class file name needs to match exactly, case
and all.

the environment variables seem to be ok, but, um, can you please be a bit more
specific about package declarations?

I would check the case of <directory-name> and make sure your package
declarations match the actual directory names.

Also verify the values of JAVA_HOME and CATALINA_HOME.

(sorry for the duplicate post)

errors, hmmm.  lots of

package com.<directory-name>.engine does not exist

and a couple of

package com.<directory-name>.utils does not exist

and of course,

cannot resolve symbol

:-)

hmmmm.

What are the errors? Are you paying attention to case? Linux (and Jav,
and Tomcat, and the JVM) are case-sensitive.
