[DISCUSS] Rename the "master" branch to "main" or "develop"?

Hi all,

I just noticed the first code has come in ... but I saw it was named "master".
You probably didn't know, but in 2020 there was a huge discussion about naming main branches "master" here at Apache (and obviously also in the rest of the world)

I would like to start a discussion on if the Wayang should also rename the main/development branch to something else.

I personally am not a big fan of "main" as main branch, as it sort of doesn't explain what's happening on the branch ... is this where development is happening or is it where the latest release version is merged to?
Personally I'm a big fan of naming the main development branch "develop" and the branch where releases go to "release".
But that's up to the project :-)

Chris

Hey,

Develop -> dev branch
Release -> main branch

I’m not a fan of main or head either, so the suggestion of Chris are fine.
