[jira] [Commented] (INFRA-9820) Jira group sling-developers out of sync with LDAP?

    [ https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/INFRA-9820?page=com.atlassian.jira.plugin.system.issuetabpanels:comment-tabpanel&focusedCommentId=14585631#comment-14585631 ]

Gavin commented on INFRA-9820:
------------------------------

You are going the wrong way, what you should be doing is continuing to use 'Roles' and not groups.
As you have found out, you (or anyone else) do not have permissions to view or edit groups, so you
can not use these for your Jira auth.

We moved away from using groups for this reason.

Jira is not connected to LDAP so these will never match up.
Whenever a new committer joins you need to add their 'JIRA Username' to the appropriate 'Role' .

See: https://cwiki.apache.org/confluence/display/INFRA/Role+Based+JIRA+Authorization for more information.

As for your current sling-developers group, I can list their JIRA usernames here:-

alexandrupopescu, bdelacretaz, clemensdev, clombart, cziegeler, edn, farra, fmeschbe, fpaparoni, gianugo, hannonpi, ianeboston, jukkaz, justinedelson, jvazquez, karlpauls, mduerig, mykee, rombert, vramdal.

If you need anybody adding or removing from that group let me know and I can adjust the list for you.

In addition, I note that the sling-developers groups is listed in the 'Administrator Role' for the project, so all those listed above, plus the manual entries in the Administrator Role are all administrators for the project. Therefore all of those people can add or remove folks to the various roles in the project.

Let me know if you need anything doing, or if not I don't see anything for me to do here.

Thanks

> In the Apache Sling project we recently moved from associating users to roles to associating groups to roles. However, it seems that at least one committer was not part of the group we expect him to be.
> In my case, the Jira group was sling-developers and I found multiple developers missing from it, e.g. sseifert@pro-vision.de ( committer ) , egli ( PMC member). It seems to happen when the Jira username != LDAP username, but it's just a hunch.
> I can't verify the group membership anywhere so my question is - how is this group populated? I would like to make sure that all committers are part of it.
