Have you tried "make DESTDIR=/blah install"?
Also, you should rather ask stuff like this on the users list first.

It wasn't clear whether bugs in the install process should go to the bugtracker
or the user list. In this case, setting LD_LIBRARY_PATH doesn't help, because
libsvn_client.so.0 points at the non-existent file libsvn_client.so.0.0. I tried
to add a note to the bugtracker item, but the bug tracker doesn't seem to let
you do this.
