[GitHub] [cloudstack] DaanHoogland commented on issue #6856: Failed to update ip address on vm NIC. Refer to server logs for details

   @1450793561 the message is that you don't have enough address capacity:
   ```
   2022-10-28 11:42:57,161 ERROR [c.c.v.UserVmManagerImpl] (API-Job-Executor-2:ctx-4253846a job-271 ctx-fb3e8669) (logid:1f117bf8) Allocating ip to guest nic d7a3a110-79f0-4475-8359-ebb41cd8c312 failed, for insufficient address capacity
   ```

   this seems strange given your description/screenshots, but the underlying message is
   ```
   2022-10-28 11:42:57,159 DEBUG [c.c.u.d.T.Transaction] (API-Job-Executor-2:ctx-4253846a job-271 ctx-fb3e8669) (logid:1f117bf8) Rolling back the transaction: Time = 14 Name =  API-Job-Executor-2; called by -TransactionLegacy.rollback:888-TransactionLegacy.removeUpTo:831-TransactionLegacy.close:655-Transaction.execute:38-IpAddressManagerImpl.listAvailablePublicIps:824-IpAddressManagerImpl.fetchNewPublicIp:811-IpAddressManagerImpl.fetchNewPublicIp:803-IpAddressManagerImpl.assignPublicIpAddress:784-IpAddressManagerImpl.allocatePublicIpForGuestNic:2283-UserVmManagerImpl.updateNicIpForVirtualMachine:1708-NativeMethodAccessorImpl.invoke0:-2-NativeMethodAccessorImpl.invoke:62
   ```

   At least the messaage isn´t clear and something can be improved there, but it seems also there is something wrong with the ip address allocation in your system. Does the user have access rights to the addresses listed? Is the user in a dedicated network, or are those addresses dedicated?

   I am not sure what you want @1450793561 , can you please describe your use case in more detail? (the VR being re-created would indeed reprogram it, but a reboot shouldn´t) the DNSses are properties of the zone/datacenter.

   @DaanHoogland

   ok,The ip change above has been solved. Now it's a new problem.

   I want to change the /etc/resolv.conf file from 10.10.10.162 to 10.10.10.79(dns). After the system restarts, the file is changed to 10.10.10.162. 10.10.10.162 This ip address looks like it belongs to a virtual router.How do I configure it?in DefaultSharedNetworkOfferingWithSGService

   The content of the file before the modification is as follows

   @1450793561 please don´t try to solve multiple problems in on issue ticket.

   You are trying to change a global configuration in a VR. It will always be overwritten on any config change in the network. Sounds like you're trying to use a feature that doesn´t exist. The best option you have is to have a configuration system constantly check and update the router. Or, of course, implement it as a new feature in CloudStack.
