Collab Support - Is it Worth it?

Is paying for the CollabNet support for subversion worth the expense?
Has anyone used it and found it to be good, bad, or ugly?

My company is trying to choose between Perforce and SVN. One
important issue is the support. Source control needs to just work and
if a problem happens, we need a group of people to help us fix it.
While the list is awesome, this is a mission critical application for
us and we want something more dedicated. CollabNet offers a fee
based support service and we were wondering how good it is. Anyone
have any experiences with it?

Thanks for the help.

Hi Peter,

When using open source which has fee options, I've always found that
having a trained crew on board being the key as a primary line of
defense with professional services being supplementary or the second
line of defense.

Even with Cisco support, having at least an CCNP on board helps out
tremendously.

I've justified and had great experiances dealing with Samba and the
Haxx (cURL guys) professional services even though for the most part
I've had the staff that can handle most problems quickly.

Just my 2 cents.

Thanks for the fast feedback. What I'm looking for are reference
sites that have had serious problems so I can gage how well the
CollabNet organization handled the problems.

When I was in support for with another firm, one of the toughest
customers was also our best reference site. They rigorously tested
our code and complained mightily when they felt that their needs
weren't met. Their demands of us as an organization were high.

I'm looking for the CollabNet customer who is the equivalent of that.
I'm looking for tales from the demanding, the pedantic and the
unlucky. I want to hear about how things went wrong and how CollabNet
stepped up to address them.

If anyone on this list has feed back that'd be great. I'll send this
request along directly to CollabNet as well.

And to all the other collabNet team members who responded, Thanks..

Peter,

I too work for CollabNet, but when it comes to our Subversion Support,
you are getting it from the company that has lead the development effort
around Subversion for a number of years, so our knowledge base is pretty
vast and we have the experience.

If you have any questions please feel free to call me. 650-228-2604.

Peter,
I am a little biased, since I work for CollabNet, but I do think
that the expense is well worth the value provided. We provide this
support to many companies, including Fortune 50 companies, and we've not
heard of anything negative that I've been aware of. There are differing
levels of support but I do believe that all would handle your needs. Do
you have specific questions or concerns?

Take care,

Jeremy
