Wes McKinney updated ARROW-189:
-------------------------------
Assignee: Leif Walsh (was: Uwe L. Korn)
> C++: Use ExternalProject to build thirdparty dependencies
> ---------------------------------------------------------
>
> Key: ARROW-189
> URL: https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/ARROW-189
> Project: Apache Arrow
> Issue Type: Improvement
> Components: C++
> Reporter: Uwe L. Korn
> Assignee: Leif Walsh
>
> My main incentive here is that I want to have a Python sdist that can be installed with a simple `pip install ./dist/pyarrow.tar.gz` (so we could provide source distributions on PyPI). This will still let the install of pyarrow depend on CMake but at least we would have the ability of a source distribution.
