MyFaces 1.2 for Geronimo 2.0?

I've seen several comments in the release notes and on the user list
about MyFaces 1.2 not yet being functional in Geronimo 2.0. Does
anybody know if this will be functional soon and more specifically, if
it will be functional in time for our 2.0 beta?

Should we maybe be looking for an alternative for 2.0 (possibly glassfish)?

Joe

Hi Joe, I've asked a couple questions on the MyFaces devlist tonight to
hopefully address some of your questions. First, I've asked for assistance
getting my local MyFaces build working again (so we can at least have
something to start using for TCK testing). And secondly I've asked for a
rough estimate for where they think they are in their JSR-252
implementation. Hopefully this will help shed some light. I'll post
responses as soon as I get anything. Thanks.

This is done, I've dropped the local repo and did a full clean build
and it appears to be happy.

Now if we could just get rid of the other module local repos ;-)

Excellent! Thanks for your help on this. After dealing with some
tough build issues over the past couple of months we are trying to
minimize the complexity of Geronimo's build environment. Picking up
MyFaces drivers from the snapshot repo instead of a localized repo in
Geronimo's src tree will be a big help.

Best wishes,
Paul

Why do you need to wait for continuum for this? Why not simply
deploy the snaps by hand so we can start to consume them now from the

I think the overall process is pretty much worked out now. You can
start the process by sending a note to the Geronimo PMC (private@)
requesting access to the TCK with a quick summary of your goals.

Yes, a MyFaces representative could definitely gather some very useful
information by joining Geronimo's TCK list. Like Jason says the
Geronimo PMC is currently discussing general access to this list for
ASF committers who have signed the NDA, and I expect that discussion
will be resolved very soon.

Best wishes,
Paul

Also, what is the address for subscribing to your TCK list?

Hi Joe, the latest status I've received from their devlist is that they are
very close to running the TCK on their JSF 1.2 implementation.... There are
some stumbling blocks though, but I think we should give them the benefit
of the doubt and continue to work with them and continue to assume that
MyFaces is what we'll use in Geronimo. I'd rather not choose another
alternative until we are absolutely positive that MyFaces is not going to
deliver.

Thanks Paul. That sounds really good. I was hoping that we could stay
with Myfaces too but I was just getting concerned based upon the
comments I kept seeing. It sounds like we're closer than I thought.

Thanks,
Joe

I hope that Geronimo can use Myfaces for JSF since they are also an
apache project. I successfully built their 1.2 snapshot today with
very little trouble (just disabled unit tests). Then I included
their jars in a JSF 1.2 web application and successfully deployed it
to Geronimo. The Myfaces engine successfully parsed the
faces-config.xml and started the webapp. I was able to access the
webapp from my browser and interact with the JSF controls. I think
that they are close enough to providing a usable JSF 1.2 driver that
we should continue to work with them for delivery in Geronimo 2.0.

Best wishes,
Paul

Yes, I think we should consider this. From what I hear its been
weeks since My Faces has been able to build. We could always swap
back as soon as My Faces provides a driver. I think we need this for
the beta, and if we're going to do it, better now than later.
