Maven: The Definitive Guide in French
Hi,
I was wondering if there is a French translation or some work in progress,
as the French community is
expanding. If none is available I would like to volunteer to produce it.

Great news, I heard some rumors about it but didn't know how far this
project was.
Translating is an easier job ;o) and it may be complementary :o)

create a mailing list in order to manage the translation with you and
Baptiste and avoiding pollution of users@maven mailing list with french text
? Already have some questions regarding translation coherence..(which terms
should we use, should we translate technical words etc..)

So, now back to english :-).
And yes, this seems very interesting. I already worked on hibernate
documentation translation and you sometimes feel akward when you just
replaced an english block and are wondering what the sentence was to
double-check you seem to have put the best translation... So, having a
double-screen doing the matching between the two versions just seems like
the way to go.

I also would like to help on translating this book but I am more focused on
creating tools allowing to translate docbook content so I think I will try
to help on this side.
I am developer on docbkx-tools (the current maven plugin you sonatype is
using for docbook generation) (ad.: the best docbook toolchain :P).
I will try to see how ppl on docbook malinglist manage the translation work
and I hope there will be something in the java world in opensource.
An other thing that may be needed for this work is an xmldiff in order to
detect the changes from the master language files for an easy of backport to
the translation files.
If someone already have some xp on this two topics, feel free to message me.

editor for open content license books (Licence Art Libre<http://artlibre.org/>,
Creative Commons <http://fr.creativecommons.org/>,
GFDL<http://www.gnu.org/copyleft/fdl.html>).
You can get the books in pdf or on paper for a price depending on the
quality of the paper (new or recycled) and on the number of pages (
http://www.inlibroveritas.net/presentation_livres.php).
They will give 10% back as royalties, I don't know but we could use it to
sponsor some opensource projects, the Apache Foundation, etc. (or maybe our
readers ;o) )

What we're going to do is find a French publisher who is interested in
printing the book. We want to have the same sort of deal we have with
O'Reilly where we forfeit the royalties to get access to experienced
editors. So I'll probably ask around to see if there are any
interested publishers. Sonatype doesn't care about making money off
the books we just want the book to be edited well. So the publisher
can take all the proceeds from the printed book which I think works
out for everyone. Editing and post production costs are very
substantial for a book.
It's great there are going to be volunteers to translate but someone
needs to be responsible for the overall translation. I'll set up the
standard mailing lists like we've done for the Chinese and German
translations. Tim keeps an eye on these and keeps folks informed about
new chapters that are in the works. If you need anything you just have
to ask him in English :-)

Sure, Tim is pretty busy this week but we'll put the content somewhere
so that folks can translate the parts of the books they want to.
We'll see if we can get something setup this week.

Hi Jason,
I recently sent an email about this at book@sonatype.com (two weeks ago or
so).
I was asking if there was currently any work about this french translation
for the definitive guide. If so, I think I'd like to contribute. If not,
then I guess we could at least try to start it up. Just show the direction
:-).

I am not an Eclipse fan (who says Netbeans ;o) ) but I would love to work on
