           Summary: mod_proxy randomly dysfunctions
           Product: Apache httpd-2
           Version: 2.2.0
          Platform: Sun
        OS/Version: other
            Status: NEW
          Severity: normal
          Priority: P4
         Component: mod_proxy
        AssignedTo: bugs@httpd.apache.org
        ReportedBy: ob@dorrboel.com

Hello,

Could you please have a look at the following issue?

httpd.conf :
UseCanonicalName Off
<VirtualHost _default_:80>
... Many rewrite rules here ...
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_URI} ^/oeil/
RewriteRule ^(.*)$ http://eicibrulh23:8039$1 [P,NE]
</VirtualHost>
<VirtualHost *:80>
        ServerName www.europajovoje.europarl.europa.eu
        ProxyPass / http://eicibrulh23:65435/
        ProxyPassReverse / http://eicibrulh23:65435/
</VirtualHost>

Problem description :
When accessing www.europajovoje.europarl.europa.eu, the request randomly (not
always) targets an incorrect (random) backend server (defined in the default
VirtualHost).
See below :
[Wed Jun 07 15:50:05 2006] [debug] proxy_util.c(1811): proxy: connecting
http://eicibrulh23:65435/future/jsp/jahia/templates/myjahiasite/corporate_portal
_templates/images/future/header_en.jpg?oboel to eicibrulh23:65435
[Wed Jun 07 15:50:05 2006] [debug] proxy_util.c(1911): proxy:
connected /future/jsp/jahia/templates/myjahiasite/corporate_portal_templates/ima
ges/future/header_en.jpg?oboel to eicibrulh23:8039
Additional info :
- the "wrong" target host is not always the same; it is defined in the default
VirtualHost
- most of the time (80/90%) the target host is correct (ie the error does not
occur at every request)
- we plan to migrate to 2.2.2 before end of June

It seems that this problem occurs :
- on high load
- when the servername length exceeds 34 characters (no problem with
www.zukunfteuropas.parlament.gv.at)

As a workaround, this VirtualHost has been moved to the default one (with ad
hoc rules).

I will provide soon URLs that demonstrate the problem.

TIA,

Olivier
