what xml is the xsl transforming?

I'm trying to get a handle on using the xsl templates to generate custom databinding classes.  Where can I find out what xml is being passed to the xsl transform?  I can't seem to find this anywhere in the docs.

Also, is it possible to similarly generate custom stubs as well?
