Modules

Is there a description of each of the modules in Geronimo? If I were
going to make a custom assembly, I'd want to know which modules matter
to me. In some cases, I've got a good sense of what they are and what
they do, and in other cases I just have no idea. I didn't see anything
obvious in the documentation or in the mailing list.

Although I guess if I'm going to supply a link to the plugin xml, I
might as well do it to the 2.1.2 version:
https://svn.apache.org/repos/asf/geronimo/site/trunk/docs/plugins/geroni
mo-2.1.2/geronimo-plugins.xml

Yes, basically -- I did find a Maven-generated documentation page buried
deep in the Geronimo site somewhere that listed a lot of the modules:
http://geronimo.apache.org/maven/server/modules/index.html

But the resulting links are usually not useful, when they're not broken.

The admin console option would probably help significantly, nonetheless,
but isn't available in the current version.

The big XML file is probably my best bet right now, although it's not
really an ideal way for me to learn about the modules, but it's better
than nothing.

If it is a single source, would the plugin catalog work? For example,
the plugin catalog for 2.1.2 is located at
http://geronimo.apache.org/plugins/geronimo-2.1.2/geronimo-plugins.xml

I think Geoffrey is looking for a single source of information/
documentation that helps structure this information. So that you don't
have to search through individual xml files or clicking on individual
plugins in the admin console. Heh -- at least that's what I'd
want... ;-)

Hi,

Every geronimo plugin has a description and category which describes
what this plugin is for, if we are keeping them accurate. This can
be found in the geronimo-plugin.xml file of each plugin or the plugin
catalog (geronimo-plugins.xml) located in either your local or remote
repo.

If you use admin console assembly server portlet, you can click on a
plugin from the list of plugins in local server to see the plugin
metadata which contains desp, category, dependency, license, etc.
(Unfortunatelly this doesn't work w/ G 2.1.2, as I just enabled this
function today).

Is there a plugin that you think we should update its description? I
can gather the information for you and update the description of the
plugin accordingly.
