Remember that XalanJ-2 is Alpha level code.  It was passing something
like 80% of the conformance suite that we use for testing. But it still has
a
way to go.  Also there has been minimal performance tuning done to it.

As for your questions:

I don't see the need for the {}'s in this statement,  if you remove them
does
it process correctly??

For the second more complex issue,  could you please send simplified
files for this.  It will make it easier to look into.
