Many of the dependencies in [gradle/dependencies.gradle|https://github.com/apache/kafka/blob/9e579587acc1678d0f69b7a57df375310267f6ec/gradle/dependencies.gradle] need to be bumped prior to Apache 3.1 release to inherit bug and security fixes.  I know netty, jetty, and jackson need updates.  But, there may be others.  They should all be checked and updated.
