It works just fine (same plugins and settings) if we keep using 2.4.3
### Environment, Platform, Device and Version information

The status bar plugin is not needed any more for cordova-ios 8 and cordova-android 15. So if you these versions, you can omit the plugin.
## For iOS
- Whether the status bar is shown or not is controlled by the `viewport` meta tag's `viewport-fit` directive.
- The background color of the status bar is controlled by the `theme-color` meta tag
## For Android
The StatusBar JavaScript API is available:
- window.statusbar.visible — A property that controls the visibility of the status bar. It accepts a boolean value (true or false).
- window.statusbar.setBackgroundColor('#AARRGGBB') — A method that changes the background color of the status bar. It accepts a hexadecimal color string.
Previous status bar preferences are reused. Preferences are read in the following priority order:
- StatusBarBackgroundColor
- BackgroundColor
- Depending on the OS version, the BackgroundColor preference may also change the navigation/gesture bar.

I'm assuming you mean 3.0.0, as 3.3.0 doesn't exist.
Are you using the `StatusBarOverlaysWebView` preference?
While Android always supported the overlay statusbar, it never obeyed the preference like iOS did until https://github.com/apache/cordova-plugin-statusbar/pull/171 which was included in v3.0.0
If the preference is enabled, then the status bar overlays on top of the webview, so the behaviour would be intended.

Hi @breautek
Sorry about the version indeed 3.0.0
Now, related to this setting we are using <preference name="StatusBarOverlaysWebView" value="false" /> (even though we are using 2.4.3 - so there must be a misusage on our side) but still, even when upgrading to 3.0.0 that preference was kept as false and the results were the ones described.
Are we missing something?

Setting `StatusBarOverlaysWebView` to true or false does not make any difference. I am using version `4.0.1-dev`. Did anyone find a working solution for this please?

that worked for me as well!

Are we missing something?
Doesn't sound like it. Are you able to reproduce the issue with a [sample reproduction app](https://github.com/apache/cordova-contribute/blob/master/create-reproduction.md)? If so, if you could provide a sample app along with maybe a screenshot of expected vs actual behaviour just so that we have a clear understanding on your expectations. The sample app can serve so I can make sure I replicate your settings and will also eliminate possible interference of frameworks or other plugins.
