[users@httpd] Cant connect to apapche

Hello Everyone,

I try to run apache 2.0.45 but it wont work. When I fill in http://localhost my browser start to search but after minutes its stopping and you get the standard Cannot find server page inside IE.

I tried to change the sentence after ServerName to localhost to 127.0.0.1 to [mycomputername] changed the port from 80 to 8080 but nothing worked so far.

I dont run a proxy and I shut down my virusscanner. My pc is running with XP pro

Only got this string of messages now.
Sorry to ask, but did you looked at "Error Logs" or "Access Logs" ?
Maybe there you will find something to help you a little bit more.

One thing (silly, maybe) : Are you sure "index.html" exists and is on the
proper directory?
If so, if you double-click directly on that file, does it open ?

You didn't uncomment the VirtualHost block.

This:
#<VirtualHost 127.0.0.1>
# ServerAdmin sem.brandenburg@chello.nl
# DocumentRoot "C:/Program Files/Apache Group/Apache2/htdocs"
# ServerName 127.0.0.1

  ServerName 127.0.0.1

I made some changes like Joseph advised me. If I understand you wrong Joseph
let me know the way I did it didnt brought a solution.

NameVirtualHost*

#
# VirtualHost example:
# Almost any Apache directive may go into a VirtualHost container.
# The first VirtualHost section is used for requests without a known
# server name.
#
#<VirtualHost 127.0.0.1>
# ServerAdmin sem.brandenburg@chello.nl
# DocumentRoot "C:/Program Files/Apache Group/Apache2/htdocs"
# ServerName 127.0.0.1

Re: [users@httpd] Cant connect to apapche

This is how I did it but it still wont work.

#NameVirtualHost 127.0.0.1:80

#
# VirtualHost example:
# Almost any Apache directive may go into a VirtualHost container.
# The first VirtualHost section is used for requests without a known
# server name.
#
#<VirtualHost 127.0.0.1>
# ServerAdmin sem.brandenburg@chello.nl
# DocumentRoot "C:/Program Files/Apache Group/Apache2/htdocs"
# ServerName 127.0.0.1
# </VirtualHost

ServerName is set 127.0.0.1:80

That's all good, but it sounds like he just wants to do localhost
testing since he doesn't have a url so the vhost setup I would recommend is:

  <VirtualHost 127.0.0.1>
      ServerAdmin youremail@domain.tld
      DocumentRoot "/PATH/TO/ROOT/"
      ServerName 127.0.0.1
  </VirtualHost>

That is the local loopback and will ONLY be accessibly by you (hence
127.0.0.1).

Yeah, XP's builtin does suck hard.

Here is an example of one of my Vhosts:

<VirtualHost *>
     ServerAdmin ******@ns.sympatico.ca
     DocumentRoot "/PATH/TO/ROOT/"
     ServerName *****.gotdns.org
     ServerAlias www www.********.gotdns.org www
</VirtualHost>

It doesn't matter if you have a firewall running or not, XP has a built
in one, which should be turned off, because it is the most stupid thing
ever.

Before I change all kind of things. What should I do? 127.0.01 after
ServerName? Same thing by VirtualHost?
Or something else? By the way....why 127.0.0.1?

I dont have firewall in windows running.

Crud. I wish I had my parents XP box working, I'd tell ya in a heart
beat. Try poking around in the network settings. Also, in your apache
config, you want to set <VirtualHost 127.0.0.1> (I used to run Apache
for test purposes on WinME).

Have you tried actually typing in 127.0.0.1
