Images in Excel - brainstorming...

I need to get images into an Excel spreadsheet that I'm generating 
dynamically.  I understand that POI does not yet support this, but I'm 
wondering if I might be able to engineer some cheesy workarounds.

In specific, the images I need to include are at well defined URLs.  Is 
it possible (using POI) to include an image from a URL?  Is it possible 
for me to create macros that will automatically 'import' these images 
when the spreadsheet is loaded?

Although I'm not exactly sure how, it would seem to me you could write a VBA
macro that would insert an image...  Of course the person receiving would
have to ok macros, but other than that it *seems* like a possible approach.
