Why nodemanager monitor virtualMemory used by containers in yarn?

Hi,
    I'm a user of hadoop.
    We should limit the physical memory used by containers,  but I don't understand why nodemanager monitor virtualMemory used by containers in yarn?


    The virtual memory can be very large while the physical memory is very small. 
    What's the advantage of limiting virtual memory ?
