french handbook
Excuse my poor english.
Two days ago, i have posted here a french version of the handbook
(corresponding to the revision 2610).
No reply, no answer.
I know that this mailing list is mostly for english people.
But i need an answer. Something like :
- great i'm putting it in the repository.
- wait, we need some chats to decide how to integrate translated
documentations.
- do this change and this and this, and perhaps it will be integrated.
- we are too busy in bug fixing, try again when subversion begin its
beta cycle or its release 1.0 life.
- we don't want any translation. So users are face with only one
documentation and we do own best to keep it up to date.
- fucking french
- ...
The futur of this existing french documentation depend of your answer.
I think subversion is not an only developper tool. It can be use for
documentation purpose, web designers, ...
So, it should be widely available.
You know, i don't need to translate the handbook in french to understand
the handbook :) .
PS : perhaps the subject of my previous post was not enought accurate.

Probably a combination of this...

Sorry for the lack of a reply but keep in mind that alpha was released just
yesterday, so people have been busy testing tarballs and answering questions
from new adopters (and celebrating FINALLY getting alpha out the door).
I'd like to say thanks for the (significant I'm sure) effort that you put into
this.

As i said to cmpilato@collab.net i'll be back near post-beta pre-release
1.0. At this stage, the english handbook should be quite stabilised and
a review should be more productive than multi review each time i sync
the french version with the original handbook.
But i appreciate any return of the curent documentation.

Yes, for example, I often feel I am not a native English speaker, when
corresponding with Brane.

Yes, we should just check in translations. Let them be reviewed by
anyone who can read them, just as we do with anything else.

Okay, I've applied Féliciano's patch, am just testing it right now to
make sure the doc builds. Will commit when done.

Féliciano Matias might as well be committing on the repository when he
does this. That is to say: he can maintain the document directly in
the tree. I'll check it in in the next few minutes, based on the URL
he sent earlier.
Féliciano, can you send me (off list) your preferred username and
password? Plaintext is fine, this is just http basic auth anyway.
This so you can commit on the French translation directly. For any
other commits, please post to the list first :-).

The translation is base one revision 2610 (too early).

This looks great, not that I can read French, but I appreciate the
work to translate it.
We just standardized our texinfo documentation to use a consistent
format so the files don't look like a mis-mash from different
authors.
I took a quick look through the patch and some of the texinfo @XXX{}
and quoting doesn't match. I'm guessing the translation was started
before we standardized the texinfo format.
Could you go through and update the patch? You may want to take a look
at some of the diffs to the handbook to see what was changed since
you grabbed a copy of it and apply the changes to this document.

Le patch installe la doc française et anglaise bien sûr.

J'ai traduit "commit" par remontée.
Pour "log message" j'ai utilisé "Description de modification".
J'aimerai un avis sur ces traductions et ... tout le reste.
NB: j'ai tendance à faire pas mal de faute d'orthographe. Je n'ai pas
fait de relecture attentive. C'est un travail que je ferai lorsque
Subversion sera proche de la version 1.0.
La traduction est basée sur la révision 2610. Il y a donc des trucs pas
à jour. Entre autre l'option '-d' n'est plus nécessaire avec "svn co".

Oh come on. A vast majority of people on this list are volunteers,
sacrificing their spare time to make Subversion better. Just another
volunteer doesn't impress us. :-)

Thanks Sander, Svn 0.41 is now built without the svn_com project.
I'm actually using a program called junction from
http://www.sysinternals.com that puts a symbolic link into a Win2K NTFS
file system. This helps me reduce the amount of file duplication while
maintaining my original layout with the httpd distro.

I don't build apache on windows (although I should), so I'll just
give you the layout I use for subversion itself:

Hi
I have built Subversion 0.13.2 for Windows 2000 but I have a question
about the directory layout before I attempt to build 0.14.0.
My build included the httpd-2.0.39 with all modules, Subversion ra_local
and ra_dav, the cmdline client and the mod_dav_svn. It all appears to
work fine (I have just done some simple tests and connected to the svn
server with IE 5.5).
However, I don't understand the directory layout used by the Visual C
DSP files. The include and library paths are confusing me. I have the
following layout:
Subversion/
build_tools
httpd-2.0.39/
srclib/
apr
apr-util
etc
svn/
db4-win32/
neon/
subversion/
libsvn_subr/
etc
My build_tools directory includes Windows versions of awk, sed, bison
etc.
This seems to make sense to me, but doesn't match the expected layout of
the DSP's.
I actually added the appropriate paths to the
Tools->Options->Directories setting of Visual C, but this seems wrong.
What should my layout?
