mail bouncing for ever - i'm about to suicide (joke)

Hi,

I've a strang issue:

I send a mail from root to user@virtualdomain.com.
The user actually recieve the mail, but as an undelivered mail return to
sender .
And the mail keeps bouncing for ever in the active queue of postfix (i can
see it changing of queue)
(note: this server is not in production, so i'm sure that it's really my
mail that is bouncing for ever.

You'll see below the message, exerpt of the mail log, the configuration
detail, master.cf <http://master.cf> of postfix

Note in log : SYSERR(nobody): Too many hops 27 (25 max):
it's strange that it's 2 above the limit.

I really need help!
Thanks,
Thomas.

The above log line is from the real "sendmail", not from postfix.

...

You have a mail loop caused by /usr/sbin/sendmail submitting mail via
SMTP to postfix. Your setup depends on using the postfix sendmail(1)
compatibility interface to resubmit mail, not the real sendmail.

Make sure /usr/sbin/sendmail is the postfix sendmail compatibility
program, not the real sendmail program.

oops, forgot the last step:

then install postfix again ;)

Posted by wolfgang <me...@gmx.net>.
your log show entries from both postfix and sendmail - that looks bad to me -
from my experience, they can *not* co-exist on a machine.

in my view you should UNinstall sendmail, then reinstall postfix - or maybe
even better UNinstall sendmail, then UNinstall postfix.

hope this helps,
