[jira] [Commented] (HIVE-12431) Support timeout for global compile lock

    [ https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/HIVE-12431?page=com.atlassian.jira.plugin.system.issuetabpanels:comment-tabpanel&focusedCommentId=15037463#comment-15037463 ]

Mohit Sabharwal commented on HIVE-12431:
----------------------------------------

When global (HS2-wide) compile lock is configured, a long-compiling request will block remaining sessions indefinitely.

Attached patch allows the user to configure the maximum time a request will wait to acquire the compile lock. Note that this configuration does not apply when session scoped compile locking is configured.

> To help with HiveServer2 scalability, it would be useful to allow users to configure a timeout value for queries waiting to be compiled. If the timeout value is reached then the query would abort. One option to achieve this would be to update the compile lock to use a try-lock with the timeout value.
