svn:ignore

How do I set the ignore property for an unversioned file in a working
directory? Also, how do I set it back?

I've tried this:
   C:\tools>svn propset svn:ignore I *.txt
svn: 'CurrentDir.txt' is not under version control

Based on the documentation in Chapter 7.

TIA,

Matt

You set the svn:ignore property on the directory that contains the files
you want Subversion to ignore.

Whoops my bad. Yes, I missed that I in there. It might be good as well
to explicitly state the current directory as a target, even though it is
the default. To sum it up, the command would be:

C:\tools>svn propset svn:ignore '*.txt' .

or, if you are still unsure about quoting (which I am because the
command shells vary interpreting it) create a text file with the
patterns and use

C:\tools>svn propset svn:ignore -F filewithignorepattern.txt .

Which won't help because he's trying to set svn:ignore to the value "I",
not "*.txt".

This looks like a small hole in the documentation. The svn propset
expanded the *.txt to all text files in the current folder and was
trying to set the property on that set. Two failures result:

1. Property would not be set on . that way
2. Files not under version control naturally fail

Quote the '*.txt' expression.
