Hi Andy,

You know, I really have become a big fan of CouchDB and PouchDB. I swear, it’s as if those tools were made just for me and how I like to make stuff.

I’d love to do a blog post. I’ve subscribed to the marketing list and I’ll post there soon.

Thank you!!

Hey Nick,

thanks for your reply. Please find my comments inline.

I really want to leave that to you. My idea for the CouchDB blog is not a tutorial but more like maybe a small series of posts. E.g:

1st post e.g.: “What we plan to do” (We plan do build a App with Server Side Swift and CouchDB)

2nd post: “What we are doing” (maybe with some things that can be shown, inline code, repo … depends on what you are willing to show)

3ed post: “What we have learned” (The final app - available here …)

This is just an idea and is based on a post style, where you share your experience. Take it like “We create an app with CouchDB and you can follow along …”.

> My plan is to first write a mobile app that will talk to Couch via a middleware layer (Kitura) - the thinking is that this further abstracts / simplifies the mobile client interface and reduces replicated effort for cross platform development. Another strong motivation is that it helps with issues around security in CouchDB, the one area where I am still very unclear and nervous.
>
> Given that the whole NoSQL phenomena is fairly new to me (ok, 2 weeks old!) + I’m currently working in isolation on this, I still have many questions to answer (but I like what I see). From experience, once I’ve a completed a couple apps and learned from a few mistakes, I should be in a better position to write with some confidence, albeit still as a newcomer.

as I said before. There is no pressure. Feel free to find the right moment to start writing about it.

> e.g. I am very reluctant to publish / teach anything that falls into the “nasty hack” / insecure category!

absolutely! As I said before: you decide when the time is right to show sth.

> In academic circles, we use peer reviewers to check work before it is published. It’s a safety net that does checks on quality and accuracy. Out of interest, is there anyone out there who can possibly play that role?

In the OpenSource project world you will most likely ask the users or developers to try and review the things you created. In the past this, was often the case on the users@ mailing list. People show what they have done (final stuff or work in progress) and ask people to review and try out. I think the best way would be to post on users@ .

> Once the blog is out, the next step is to feature it on iTunes U.

That’s awesome. I think at least when this is step is accomplished, a blog post with what you have done and where you share your knowledge (iTunes U should be written) has to be written ;-).

> Happy to talk if you prefer (contact details below)

Let’s use the ML here so that other folks can jump into the discussion. Please don’t feel forced to write anything. And please keep in mind, that we are always very interested in “real life” CouchDB implementations and are happy to help in any way - like writing about this together.

Thanks a lot and all the best. I highly appreciate the good conversation!

Hi Jenn, and all,

I’ve been playing with CouchDB/PouchDB/JQuery/Bootstrap to make a sort of blog/sharing site:

http://ibloc.com <http://ibloc.com/>

It’s kind of like https://medium.com <https://medium.com/> and "https://news.ycombinator.com <https://news.ycombinator.com/>”, which are two of my favorite sites to take a break from work with.

The code is a mess because I’ve really just been hacking and playing, and I’ve still got some things I’d like to add and tweak there, but I think it's a pretty fun app and it only took a couple days to rough it out, which just amazes me. Those four tools work so well together they should come in a boxed set. Sucks that I can’t think of a snazzy acronym for them, but I’ve tried and still got nothing.

Anyway, I’ll clean the code up soon but I wanted to share it here since we don’t get to see enough stuff made just for fun and if anyone wants to post something there, well, that would just make my day.

Kindest Regards,

Bill Stephenson
