3.3.2 Call for Votes

We need +3 votes from PMC (or the release manager) to declare 3.3.2 an
official ASF release. This 3.3.2 release has no changes since
3.3.2-rc2. Please do some testing before voting.

If you are not a PMC member, please let us know if you see any
regressions since 3.3.1 along with details of your platform.

It was most likely written about 8 years ago when we first came to the
ASF. Since then it has been pointed out that the requirement is for 3
votes from the PMC as they are responsible to the ASF Board and the ASF
as a whole for oversight of the project.

I actually don't recall what the build/README file says.  I think I've
only read it once. It most likely needs correction.

"Full (general availability) releases require 3 +1's from PMC members. This
is unfortunate, but it's a requirement of the ASF's bylaws." -
http://wiki.apache.org/spamassassin/ReleasePolicy

This does seem more consistent with other ASF policy I've read, and
I agree that the build/README is more likely to be the one in need of
correction. It also makes sense that the build/README could have been
written on the assumption that all committers are PMC members.

Why was the text written that way? If that is the case then the
build/README should be corrected.

I believe ASF policy actual requires that there be 3 votes from the PMC,
*not* OR the RM. I think some text assumes that the RM is a PMC member.

Just as an FYI (in a real quick look I don't see it documented), we
generally let the vote run for 72 hours for people to find show
stoppers. I suppose, though, since the release is unchanged from the
rc2, you're OK in this case (otherwise you'd have a day to go).

It's documented in build/README -- hopefully there hasn't been any
bit-rot in the hosts it runs on...

OK. We have 3 votes. Do we have a written process to update the
website? I didn't do that part last time.

You should document this somewhere other than this list. Maybe
build/README ?

The CPAN, The Unauthorized and The Indexer ...

Posted by Steffen Schwigon <ss...@renormalist.net>.
... walk into a bar. :-)

Hi!

Regarding the “unauthorized” trouble I just resend my email below with
the list of modules. There also was another mail with the particular
indexer output which showed it's mostly FELICITY (not only JMASON as I
originally wrote) who needs to set Co-Maint to the other users (at
least KMCGRAIL).

I would simply ask all users who ever did an upload go to PAUSE and
add all other n-1 users to Co-Maint.

Then re-index and wait some time to let it propagate.
Then we review what's still missing.

In the meantime users can install using

  cpan KMCGRAIL/Mail-SpamAssassin-3.3.2.tar.gz

Kind regards,
Steffen

That's solvable.
Do you have the neccessary co-maintainer permissions in the meantime?
If not, get them, probably from JMASON. In particular for:

  Mail::SpamAssassin::AICache
  Mail::SpamAssassin::BayesStore::DBM
  Mail::SpamAssassin::BayesStore::SQL
  Mail::SpamAssassin::Conf::LDAP
  Mail::SpamAssassin::Conf::Parser
  Mail::SpamAssassin::Conf::SQL
  Mail::SpamAssassin::HTML
  Mail::SpamAssassin::Locker::Flock
  Mail::SpamAssassin::Locker::UnixNFSSafe
  Mail::SpamAssassin::Locker::Win32
  Mail::SpamAssassin::MailingList
  Mail::SpamAssassin::Message::Metadata
  Mail::SpamAssassin::Message::Metadata::Received
  Mail::SpamAssassin::Message::Node
  Mail::SpamAssassin::Plugin
  Mail::SpamAssassin::Plugin::DKIM
  Mail::SpamAssassin::Plugin::Hashcash
  Mail::SpamAssassin::Plugin::RelayCountry
  Mail::SpamAssassin::Plugin::SPF
  Mail::SpamAssassin::Plugin::Test
  Mail::SpamAssassin::Plugin::URIDNSBL
  Mail::SpamAssassin::PluginHandler
  Mail::SpamAssassin::SQLBasedAddrList
  Mail::SpamAssassin::Timeout
  Mail::SpamAssassin::Util::RegistrarBoundaries

If done, login to pause.perl.org and request “Force Reindexing” in the
navigation bar.

Sorry it's taken this long to respond. CPAN processed the rc1 I uploaded
as a test after I got karma on some of the files. Argh.

The good news is that RC1 got 6 passes on CPAN running a pretty wide
variety of perls.

We are doing our best! I think we have enough votes to release so
working on all the duck work to do so!

I just asked someone and the easiest, currently proposed method is:

 - do *nothing* special
 - just “make dist” etc. to create the spamassassin-3.3.2.tar.gz file
 - then rename that file into spamassassin-3.3.2-TRIAL.tar.gz
 - upload that -TRIAL.tar.gz file

Files with /TRIAL/ are not indexed and are therefore only seen by
directly interested parties or smoke testers, etc.

This is quite exactly targeting your needs.

Good luck.

And thanks for the lot of 3.3.2 effort in the last weeks.
It's highly appreciated.

Kind regards,
Steffen

+1 here though I have NOT tested with the tars built below yet as they
should be identical to 3.3.2-rc2. There are a lot of great fixes and
the perl 5.12.X+ compatibility work in this release.

I'm working to figure out how to upload this to CPAN and have it be
treated as a developer release. Anyone with direct input, appreciated
but my believe is that I'll have to edit the version to add _02 or
something along with the meta.yml file. I have karma now on CPAN but
afraid to upload and have it be treated as a release

KAM
