dependency cache files
What are the dependency cache files used for? They appear under the
WEB-INF\classes directory. If I remove them I can only login as root.

Dependency cache files are typically from an IDE, such as Jbuilder,
anything that conditionally compiles to improve compile performance.

They have nothing to do with slide, probably something from your servlet
container.
