Thanks, that helps.
ant -Dhy.javac.maxmem=512M doesn't work for some reason.

<joke>
People have non-IBM PC's ?! :-0

If you are an Eclipse-person you can work with IBM JDK and Eclipse by
getting the "Development Kit for Eclipse" from the same page.

that is odd. an "IBM" system.
I have to admit - it was cool to see the Dev package for Harmony listed
there...

That's Linux only though, correct? You need a "IBM" PC for windows.
There's also BEA's JDK. It's pretty good on Windows.

I was using Sun JDK 1.5.0 indeed. There is some info about memory
limits in Sun VM at [1]:
<--
maximum heap size:
Smaller of 1/4th of the physical memory or 1GB. Before J2SE 5.0,
the default maximum heap size was 64MB. You can override this default
using the -Xmx command-line option.
<--
However, it is only valid if the parallel gabage collector is used.

Which JRE are you using to run Ant? I'm using IBM 5.0 SR2 (without
ANT_OPTS) and don't have this problem. I also see OOM during gen-report
with Sun code, but not with IBM's.
I don't know what the default -Xmx is for Sun.

ya. :) I guess all the exception thrown by reflection is
InvocationTargetException. At least it should print something like caused by
or print the e.getTargetException().

Thanks! I added ANT_OPTS = -Xms256M -Xmx512M. It built sucessfully. It
gave a rather strange, misleading error message for a memory problem (?!?)

Hmm, I've got the same problem. Current workaround is to switch back

ant -Dhy.javac.compiler=modern -Dhy.javac.maxmem=512M
