It's somehow difficult to automate it in github workflow. If we want save a token in github secrets, then it becomes meaningless. If we don't save a token forever, for each release with new crates, we need to write code to adjust the workflow, it's still manual effort. So I prefer to keep it as is for now, and publish manually when we have new crates.

It seems like this is just a limit of trusted publishing, I'll make sure to add this note to the release guide.

I see the crate is live: https://crates.io/crates/iceberg-cache-moka

Yes, it's a limitation, and it seems there is no perfect solution to it. Since creating a new crate is not that frequent, I would close this issue for now.

Yep, its a crates.io publishing quirk. Heres the docs: https://crates.io/docs/trusted-publishing
   > Your crate must already be published to crates.io (initial publish requires an API token)

We can harden the publishing by removing the API token (from the github workflow) after the first version publish. And enable trusted publishing for all new versions
For example, this is for the `iceberg` crate https://crates.io/crates/iceberg/settings

The other thing missing is setting up crate ownership. Manual action by committer sounds good for now.
