abderrahim opened a new issue #1616:

   bst master now depends on `grpcio < 1.39` which is pretty old. In fact it is old to the point it is built with an ssl stack that is now broken. Running bst master I get the following error when initializing remotes (both freedesktop-sdk and gnome, both using certificates from Let's Encrypt)

   ```
   E0313 17:15:25.577198275   11041 ssl_transport_security.cc:1468] Handshake failed with fatal error SSL_ERROR_SSL: error:1000007d:SSL routines:OPENSSL_internal:CERTIFICATE_VERIFY_FAILED.
   ```

   We need to drop this versioned dependency, hopefully the newest versions work fine with python 3.10.

   This was limited to 1.39 in #1531 because any more recent versions of grpcio (I recall trying many versions in series until finding the magic 1.39 which actually works) are broken and cause segfaults, consistently with python 3.9 and also sporadically we were seeing similar segfaults in CI with other versions.

   Do we have a version of grpcio which passes tests with python 3.9 without segfaults/stack traces ?

   What assurances do we have that grpcio is not still broken ?

   Using the latest version (1.44.0) the test suite runs fine with both python 3.9 and 3.10 from Debian sid.

   Does it run fine with the distros under test with `./run-ci.sh` ?

   Well, we have assurances that 1.38 doesn't work either (because of the ssl error above).

   > Do we have a version of grpcio which passes tests with python 3.9 without segfaults/stack traces ?

   Was the error so consistent? I've been using python 3.9 and latest grpc in a day to day usage with no problems (until reinstalling bst downgrades it). I can check tests.
